The Problem With Synthetic Sponges
Synthetic sponges are made with petroleum based products, due to this they are unable to break down and decompose. Because of this, they typically end up in landfills across the world. Many Canadians are unaware of our exportation of garbage to third world countries that accept our garbage and ''recyclables''. With some countries not having the proper infrastructure to properly dispose of wastes, a common management strategy is to use landfills that pollute the local areas.
One country (Bangladesh) is rated to have lowest air quality in the world. With developed countries exporting garbage to Asian countries that have poorly maintained landfills, we get rid of our problem by keeping it ''out of sight, out of mind.'' To combat this issue, we can make more of a conscious effort in reducing our waste to help make the world a better place and leave it in a better state for the future generations to come.
